We are honored to nominate senior, two-sport-captain (hockey and lacrosse), Jaclyn Kulzer, for the Hobey Baker Award. Jacki embodies all the things that are so valued within the Hobey Baker Award—character, excellence, a love for the game and sportsmanship.
Jacki is one of those athletes that has the ‘coaches dream’ type of attitude.
Regardless of wins, losses, 6am practices or 3pm practices and through the ups and downs, she has shown unwavering loyalty to and leadership within the Stillwater Girls Hockey program. As a coaching staff, having someone like Jacki around allows us to take a deep breath because we know that no matter what, she will remain positive, have a team-first mindset, and lead her teammates to do the same.
Because of her strength, determination, and leadership, she has earned the utmost respect from her coaches, teammates, and peers and although she may not always show up on the scoreboard, she always shows up with support, a mindset of growth and what we call, “the four C’sâ€_x009d_: caring, commitment, consistency, and credibility.
Not only is Jacki an outstanding athletic leader, but she also belongs to the National Honors Society, the Basic Institute for Zonal African Advancement, Dollars for Dreams Club and Link Crew Leaders. In addition, she has volunteered at the Special Olympics, for Highway clean up, with Stillwater’s Youth Hockey Association, at blood drives, food drives and has shown a love for giving back to the community through several other volunteer experiences.
As if that wasn’t enough, Jacki has also been on the honor roll for every semester for four straight years, has won the Superior Rating at the MN State Band Solo Competition (for the saxophone) and has been selected to both All-Conference and All-Section teams for Lacrosse.
As a coaching staff, we have absolutely no hesitation when saying that she will have a huge positive impact on the world.
