Bethany is a very talented and gifted person who excels both athletically and in the classroom.  She also demonstrates excellent leadership skills and, as a result, serves as one of our team captains this season.  I am confident that because of her talent and commitment to excellence, she will enjoy continued success in her days beyond high school.
As her coach, I would like to provide a few examples that I think provide insight into the type of person Bethany is. She is consistently one of the team leaders in terms of her on ice work ethic.  As a senior and captain, I will often ask her to initiate the start of practice and lead the warm-up.  I never have any concern whether that task will be accomplished, and she always does an excellent job.
Additionally, when our team practices, we have a range of eighth graders through seniors on the ice at the same time.  Bethany has gone out of her way to make sure the younger girls feel they are accepted and a valued part of the whole group.  We also have had a senior with a difficult past come out for the team as JV player, and Bethany either lined up rides for her to and from the rink or picked her up herself to make sure she always had the opportunity to participate.  
Bethany is the type of role model that we are happy to have our players emulate.  She is a well-rounded person who, among other things, shines in multiple sports. She is also an excellent musician and is very involved in her church youth group. In fact, she has traveled to Haiti to spend time working with children in an orphanage.  She has had great accomplishments academically as evidenced by her status at the very top of her class while also being a member of the National Honor Society.              
It is easy to give reasons for a person like Bethany to be awarded the HSCA.  I only hope the words on this page adequately convey my utmost respect for her as person, student, and athlete.  In my book, she is a worthy and deserving candidate to be highly considered for the Hobey Baker Award.
