Countdown to Hobey:

Jillian Egan

2019 | Rhode Island | GIRLS

La Salle Academy | Rams | GIRLS

Jillian Egan is a senior captain and four year varsity letter winner for the La Salle Academy Girls’ Hockey Team. As a player, Jillian has always been an extremely hard worker and skill player for our hockey teams. Her greatest asset is her speed with the puck and when she utilizes this strength, she puts opposing defenses and goalies on their heels. As a senior, Jillian has assumed the role as one of our team captains. She has embraced this leadership role in a variety of ways and has demonstrated strong character in executing her responsibilities. For example, Jillian has made a special effort to be inclusive of all players on the team, especially the younger players. Whether it is being sure everyone has a ride to team events or supporting the freshmen in getting acclimated to high school hockey, Jillian has gone out of her way to make sure the new players feel like they are an important part of our hockey family. She also has played a major role in assisting with our community service activities aimed at helping others including volunteering to help future hockey players learn to skate, sponsoring a deserving family at Christmas, and participating in a pink out game to help fight cancer. It was this latter event where Jillian went above and beyond by creating team jerseys with pink lettering, numbers, and ribbons. The jerseys provided an added level of excitement for the team and gave all the girls an amazing memory and keepsake of the event. Jillian is also very humble and has approached me on multiple occasions to discuss her leadership role and how to improve in motivating and supporting her teammates. I appreciate how hard Jillian works at being a good leader and more importantly how important it is for her to be a good friend to all the players on the team. She embraces the challenges of being a team captain and continues to grow and experiment at being an effective and empathetic leader. Jillian is a deserving recipient of the Hobey Baker Award and the entire team is honored to have her represent La Salle Academy Girls’ Hockey.
