Maddy has been a great team leader the last two seasons. She is our goalie which is a position that is often seperated from the rest of the team, not only in games, but in how they prepare and practice due to how different they are from the other positions. Maddy has found a way to be very connected with rest of the team even with the positional differences.

Maddy always puts the team first. She is our starting goalie and has played almost every game last season and this. About a 1/3 of the way into this season she pulled me aside and told me that she thinks I should let the backup goalie start a game soon. She said, I think (other goalie) is starting to feel like she isn”t important to the team since she isn”t playing in games, but she really is. We really need her, so I think it would be good if you could find a varsity game to let her start soon so she knows that you realize she is working hard in practice too. Not many kids would be willing to tell their coach to start someone else in a game and this is what makes Maddy such a team player.

Another example is at the end of each game we vote for someone who is a game changer…a player who did something, no matter how little, that made a difference in the game. We had just got done tying a team that we have never beaten before 2-2. We had been outshot 62-15 and Maddy had played a fantastic game. The team unanimously voted for her to be the game changer but as I tried to give her the award she said, I think that we all really came together tonight and played a great game as a team. I don”t think I deserve this award tonight. Let”s give it to (another player who had gotten seriously hurt early in the game and was in the hospital at the time).
