Hobey Baker High School Character Award

Dear Committee:

I write to nominate Paul Menexas, a Junior at St Mary’s High School, for consideration in your search for the CHSHL Hobey Baker High School Character Award recipient.  Paul has been an extraordinarily dedicated student, athlete and contributor to the St Mary’s community throughout his three years here. Paul’s commitment to excellence and well-roundedness are apparent, and in recognition of these qualities, I believe he embodies the characteristics of the preeminent candidate for the Hobey Baker High School Charter Award.  
I have known Paul for three years at St Mary’s. His character and leadership on and off the ice are exemplary, his work ethic is commendable, and he certainly has continued to make his family proud. Paul will lead the team next year with his outstanding leadership skills.
Paul in his spare time has volunteered in helping St Mary students after school, tutoring in Spanish and in a school mentor program. Paul has traveled to West Virginia with St Mary’s to help re build homes for those who are in need and financially struggling. Paul also contributes in his community by organizing young adults around the neighborhood to help the elderly during snow storms to clear walkways and driveways. Paul also volunteers at a local hockey program where he helps with teaching on ice instruction to 6 year old with there skating skills.  He has also charted his own course, academically, socially, athletically and spiritually during his own years here at St Mary’s.  I can attest to the talents and gifts Paul has exhibited in all of those categories and I unreservedly recommend him for consideration as the 2014-2015 Hobey Baker High School Character Award.
Paul has certainly excelled academically during his high school years, earning Academic Honors. His course load has always been among the most difficult, as Paul has consistently been enrolled in Honors and Advanced Placement classes where available, Paul has consistently excelled with 4.0 average.  Clearly, Paul has the genuine qualities of a scholar that I believe make him more than worthy of recognition the next year.  
I can also personally attest during his high school years as a Varsity player he has become one of the best all-around players, Paul has never said no to any position when asked to play, whether it was forward or defense.  He is a true leader, play maker and fierce competitor with self-control.  Paul has truly displayed his ability as an athlete on the ice, but also as a leader off the ice and he showed the qualities of determination, strength and sincerity, the qualities all coaches want to see their player’s exhibit.
Paul has shown throughout his high school years that dedication to hard work, integrity and respect to team mates and others on and off the ice makes him a fine leader and a model citizen.
