Countdown to Hobey:

Sean Bailey

2014 | Virginia | BOYS

Broad Run High School | Spartans | BOYS

Sean Bailey is not only an outstanding student, with a GPA of 4.58; but also an outstanding defenseman, Assistant Captain, friend, teammate, and leader.  He brings quiet intensity on and off the ice, but isn’t afraid to throw his weight around when the situation calls for it.  Sean usually uses humor to communicate ideas instead of giving commands and direction.  He is very effective as an Assistant Captain on the Broad Run Varsity Hockey team.  As a player, Sean is one of the smartest, most reliable defensemen you could ask for.  Behind the scenes, Sean quietly takes care of many of the logistics for the team without drawing attention to the fact.  Outside of the rink, Sean spends a lot of time tutoring others in math and helping teachers at the elementary school.  He is a member of National Honor Society and is doing an independent science research project that will result in him participating in the NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge in April at Huntsville, Alabama.  A great example of his caring for his friends and the Broad Run Hockey team was when he took the time to train 3 hockey players who wanted to make the Varsity team but felt they needed to improve their skills.  Sean spent his free time during the summer months at the rink teaching these players, who eventually did make the Varsity team.  In all areas, Sean Bailey has demonstrated throughout his Broad Run Hockey career all the qualities of a Hobey Baker award winner and a winner in general.
