Kenny Martinson is one of two captains for the Grand Rapids-Greenway Lightning but her story is more unique than simply being the moral authority of the team. Kenny played goalie through most of her junior year before making the full time switch to forward the last portion — capped off by playing center in the Section 7AA final against Andover in the Spring of 2021. As if that weren’t enough, Kenny has been diagnosed with a debilitating muscular disease that put her high school athletic career in both soccer and hockey in jeopardy. With a green-light from the Mayo clinic, she has finally been able to commit herself fully to the physical demands of a hockey season.
