Without hesitation I, Shaun McGinty, Head Coach of Central Bucks South High School Ice Hockey Team, nominate Aidan Gaffney for the Hobey Baker High School Character Award. Aidan stands out as one of the finest student athletes I have had the opportunity to work with since starting coaching at the high school level 2002. I have had the honor of knowing & working with Aidan and his family since 2015. As a student athlete, Aidan is a total team player who always gives 100% both on and off the ice.

As the founder and head coach of Crush Hockey, a youth ice hockey skill development program, I have committed my coaching philosophy to the advancement of young players. This program has afforded me the opportunity to work with Aidan, witness his integrity, as well as his willingness to be a leader within his community of hockey. Aidan has generously given his time to give back to the game he truly loves. Under my supervision and others, he has helped to coach youth ice hockey players at various clinics and camps including Crush Hockey & Keystone Hockey Camps. His work ethic, commitment, and willingness to help others was apparent from day one.

Aidan not only excels on the ice but in the classroom as well. He has been a strong student athlete who has remained dedicated to continuing his education and athletics. Like most students, during Aidan’s educational journey he has had to face obstacles along the way. Aidan never allowed these obstacles to define him, rather this propelled him to excel. While attending Central Bucks South High School, in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, he has performed at a commendable level in the classroom as participated in honor level courses (3.5 GPA) while maintaining his standout quality of play on the ice.

The Gaffney family is a tight family that is very supportive of one another. Aidan comes from a family who never misses a single game, home or away. The Gaffney family not only supports hard work on the ice but keeps high expectations for academics as well.
