Countdown to Hobey:

Nathan Granata

2021 | Ohio | BOYS

St. Francis DeSales | Stallions | BOYS

Nathan came to our team as a freshman four years ago. He had lived down the street for years and he was not a hockey player and actually not a high school athlete. I had convinced him after church one Sunday to come out to one of our preseason skates telling him that if he didn’t like it after three sessions I wouldn’t bother him about it anymore. Four years later, the transformation has been remarkable. We taught the kid how to skate and play the great game of hockey. Nathan took it to another level. We thought we were filling a need as our team needed bodies and what we got was a new player that became a student of the game. He has embraced our culture. He carries himself with confidence, stands up for himself, his teammates and has become a competitor and a leader on his team. We are a private Catholic high school and very high on the academic scale. Nate is a 4.0 student and is a member of National Honor Society. He is a team captain this year, he understands what it is to be a leader, he has the respect of his team mates and he has worked very hard to be a contributor to his team on and off the ice. Nate sets the example for the younger guys and he takes great pride in that. Four years ago, the kid was pushing a folding chair and could barely look you in the eye. It doesn’t get any better than this.
