Countdown to Hobey:

Jamie Schuman

2019 | Ohio | BOYS

Upper Arlington | Golden Bears | BOYS

Jamie Schuman is a most deserving recipient of the 2019 Hobey Baker High School Character Award. As an active student athlete his entire high school career, Jamie was able to maintain high academic achievement in each of his four (4) years at Upper Arlington High School.

He has been an honor roll student excelling in advanced courses in at least 5 subject areas. As a leader on our high school hockey team, he unselfishly agreed to switch positions in his senior year to fill a team void- moving from an offensive wing position to defense. In his second season as Team Captain, Jamie emerged as the quiet, yet-focused leader of our Varsity program – always conducting himself in the right manner on and off the ice.
Although a mid season-ending injury marked the end of his ability to contribute to our team on the ice, Jamie continued to lead by example – attending practices and games to support, encourage and cheer on his teammates during the stretch run towards playoffs.

In the community, Jamie has participated in many service-oriented programs such as helping special needs hockey players, participating in Senior Service Saturdays, as well as volunteering in the “Interact Club,â€_x009d_ sponsored by the Rotary. This program allows students to participate in meaningful service projects in the community that enhance leadership skills and expand international understanding.

In addition to earning varsity letters in hockey, Jamie has also earned 3 letters in lacrosse – and is working to recover in time to earn his fourth lacrosse letter this Spring season.

The outstanding strengths of personal character, integrity, leadership, commitment to his team and service to his community make Jamie Schuman the most deserving Upper Arlington hockey athlete of The Hobey Baker High School Character Award.
