Jack is the one of five seniors on the 2018-19 Mentor High School Varsity Hockey team and was voted by his team mates as one of our Assistant Captains. He is a natural born leader, offers selfless encouragement to his teammates and places the team above his personal goals. Jack was an obvious choice to lead our team this season as he asserted himself over his career as an elite player and leader.
Ice hockey is a demanding sport which requires countless hours spent not only at the rink for practices and games, off the ice in the weight room and gym preparing for the arduous season, but in the classroom as well. Jack’s commitment to being a well-rounded student athlete is evident. He carries one of the highest grade point averages on the team while excelling as a leader on the ice.
As a three year letterman, Jack’s skills on the ice speak for themselves as he recorded his second career Varsity Hat trick. Jack was named as a News-Herald Athlete of the Week during the 2017-18 and 2019-19 hockey seasons. Not only was Jack a three year Varsity Letterman in ice hockey, but was a member of the Mentor High School Varsity and JV Golf Teams.
Away from hockey, Jack is an active four year member of The CARDS Club-Caring And Respect Determine Success, a school community anti-bullying club. Additionally, Jack has participated in Student Leadership Workshops which include the Bullying/Olweus Program, Rachel’s Club, and the Project Love-Stick Together Program. Jack is also a member of the Mentor High School World Travelers Club, which recently traveled to Italy during the Summer of 2018 and he is enrolled in an on-line course for college credit. Jack is involved in the Mentor High School’s Newspaper and most recently penned a column titled “Good Eatsâ€_x009d_, a review of local restaurants. Off the ice, Jack carries a 3.4 GPA while enrolled in AP Courses. While maintaining his grades and devoting a catamount of time to practices and games, Jack finds time to work at our local Heinen’s Grocery Store and participate in the Pilgrim Lutheran Brethren Church Youth Group.
