The nomination from the Arapahoe Warriors Varsity I – Tier 2 team from the High Plains Hockey League for 2018 Hobey Baker Award is Joseph L Granmoe. Joe is a Senior at Heritage High School in Littleton Colorado and has participated in the High Plains Hockey League as part of the Arapahoe Warriors for three seasons.
There are several reasons why Joe is deserving of the Hobey Baker award. Firstly, he is the teammate that everyone else would like to have playing with them. Joe’s playing style is to support his teammates and help them to be successful. He has a “pass-firstâ€_x009d_ mentality. His decision making is always based on what’s best for the team. He supports his teammates through effective positioning and coverage on both ends of the ice. Joe never speaks poorly of a teammate and takes the makes the extra effort to get them involved in the games or practice drills. His teammates want to play with him, and he wants to play with them.
The second reason is that Joe is the player that every coach wants on their team. He practices and plays without complaint. He has been flexible in playing both offensive and defensive positions as needed by the team. His play is always consistent, and he gives a full effort on every shift. His past and current coaches know they can depend upon Joe to deliver on his role. Joe’s past coaches consistently comment on how much they enjoyed having him be a part of their team.
Lastly, Joe also has excellence off the ice. His GPA ranks him 4th in his class of over 400 students. His coursework consists of all Advanced Placement curriculum. He has received recognition as Student of the Month and academic based scholarship awards at several colleges. But possibly the greatest recognition comes from his friends and the parents of his past and present teammates. There has never been an unkind word spoken about Joe by those individuals. He is universally respected and admired by those who know him. And at the end of the day, that is the measurement of character.
Joe’s exemplifies the values of the Hobey Baker award. Quite simply he makes those around him better through his actions and contributions.
