Countdown to Hobey:

Luke Nygard

2018 | North Carolina | BOYS

Charlotte Rush | 18A Team | BOYS

Luke Nygard is an exceptional person which is seen in his hockey leadership, working hard to become an Eagle Scout, and his strong academic record.
Luke exhibits strong leadership as he is always respectful and showed leadership with his teammates. His teammates voted him as a Captain several times and he helped to lead the team in a quiet but determined manner. He led by example – working hard, hustling, and respecting his teammates and the game. Most importantly, his peers looked at him as a leader and as someone that they could look up to as a role model for our team values that included Respect, Hard Work, Hustle, and Teamwork.
Luke’s character is beyond reproach. He has a level of maturity when it comes to his personal values. He respects others, leads by example, and clearly knows right and wrong. Luke clearly knows right and wrong and stands up for his values in this example. He doesn’t follow the crowd – he does the right thing. This is exemplified in his Eagle Scout achievement. He worked hard, was determined to succeed, and was very humble about the accomplishment.
Luke was always a good teammate and always put the team first over his personal goals. He is personally unselfish and you can see it in the way he plays – he does the little things well and he helps others on the team to follow the team rules. These may seem like “littleâ€_x009d_ things but these are the types of characteristics that I see in players who develop into outstanding citizens.
Luke is respectful of the game, his peers, opponents, coaches, and rink personnel. He plays the game cleanly but with intensity. This isn’t always the case for other players. Respect is the most important characteristic that we demand from our players and he is a role model for others. Luke also showed tremendous inner strength and resolve when his Mom passed away a few years ago during the season. He handled it with strength, poise, and determination.
Luke is the son of John and LuAnn Nygard of Charlotte NC and attends Union Academy. His future plans are to attend college and play club hockey.
