Xander Wehner
2018 | Pennsylvania | BOYS
Oxford Area Ice Hockey Club | Hornets | BOYS
Xander was a freshman when we started our club. He helped us develop, recruit and retain players. Helped us fundraise and has been a leader in rallying, playing, coaching and even teaching some of them basic hockey skills such as skating. A senior this year, he is captain of a very young team (most of whom have never played hockey) and has lead our team into becoming one that can play the game. Xander has played Tier 1 and Tier 2 travel hockey since he was 9, he’s been to Nationals a couple times and is somewhat used to winning. Our high school team is completely different, this season we have lost every game. Xander still goes out, passes the puck, sets up plays and works as a team player in ways that is hard to describe when we all know and sometimes want him to just rush the puck and score. It is more important for him to build up his team and make them all play, rather than to win. These are characters of a great leader and a fine young man, which is why we nominate him for this award.
