Minneapolis, MN, 2/22/2024 : – The Hobey Baker Memorial Award Foundation has partnered with the Columbus Blue Jackets for the Hobey Baker High School Character Award in the state of Ohio. We are thrilled about this collaboration with the Blue Jackets organization to build awareness of the High School Character Award in Ohio which honors one player on boys and girls teams who exemplify the characteristics and ideals of the legendary Hobey Baker..

“When John H. McConnell founded the Blue Jackets, he was committed to the team giving back to the community and upholding the Golden Rule. Those are values we carry on to this day. It is an honor to partner with the Hobey Baker Memorial Award Foundation on the Character Award to recognize a high school hockey player who truly embodies those same values,” said Andee Cochren, Sr. Director, Community Development.

Each year, we receive positive feedback from coaches, players and parents about the importance of the award and the satisfaction that winners receive from being recognized for embracing the values that the game teaches. These traits include coachability, strength of character, integrity, commitment, teamwork, community building and outstanding sportsmanship.

The Hobey Baker High School Character Award welcomes nominations from December to April each hockey season, allowing coaches across the country to acknowledge players for their exceptional character both on and off the ice.

Now in its 19th season, the Hobey Baker High School Character Award has recognized over 13,000 winners from 36 states.  Many of these young men and women have gone on to play hockey in college and the NHL.   All winners can be viewed on the Hobey Baker Memorial Award website.
