New York, N.Y. — August 22, 2014 — Hobey Baker Award finalist Kevin Hayes agreed to terms on a free-agent contract with the National Hockey League’s New York Rangers on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old forward had 27 goals and 38 assists this past season with Boston College, making him a finalist for the Hobey Baker that is awarded to the top player in collegiate hockey.

Hayes, 6-foot-5 and 225 pounds, was named to the NCAA East all-American first team and Hockey East’s first all-star team after he set career-highs in goals, assists, power-play goals (six), and game-winning goals (six). He ranked second in the nation in points, fourth in assists, and fifth in goals.

In 142 games over four years at Boston College, Hayes had 44 goals and 88 assists. During his tenure, the team won the 2012 national championship. He was originally selected by Chicago with the No. 24 pick in the 2010 draft.
