The Hobey Baker High School Character Award honors high school hockey players who exemplify the Hobey Baker ideal that “Character Builds Excellence.” Candidates are selected by their coaches based on positive attitude, coachability, sportsmanship, academic achievement and community spirit. Here Tom Hauser, Hobey Baker committee member and studio host of the Minnesota High School Hockey Tournament for KSTC-TV45, interviews 2016 award winners Katie McMillan of Minnetonka and Jared Gherardi of Benilde/St. Margaret’s during the 2016 boys high school hockey tournament. The award is now offered in 20 states and has almost 1000 winners each high school hockey season.
